1999-2000Portfolio - eCircles.com

www.ecircles.com Company no longer exists

I worked at eCircles.com (no relation to eCircle AG) from October 1999 to April 2000, where I served as a Web Development Engineer. As a part of the graphic user interface team, I was responsible for the creation of HTML templates for the eCircles' website, working in conjunction with the engineering team to implement these templates into the core system which was based on both CGI and Java. In creating these templates, I also worked alongside the graphic design team to work out an overall design concept that would work across all major browsers and platforms.

In addition to working on the eCircles website, I was responsible for the design and implementation of all HTML email templates (see screenshot below) that were delivered regularly to the site's 2 million plus members. In the preparation of these templates, I again worked closely with the graphic design team for design concepts as well as with engineers running the ad server to provide up-to-date advertisements that appeared in these e-mails.

In conjunction with these HTML newsletter campaigns, I was also responsible for the construction of HTML landing pages (see screenshot below) that users accessed via links in the HTML e-mails, where users could fill out surveys, register for online sweepstakes or sign up for additional newsletters.

After the stock market began its decline in early 2000, eCircles began to suffer from the impact that the market decline had on Silicon Valley. I was part of the first wave of lay offs in April of 2000 and a second round of layoffs occured a few months later. eCircles ceased operations in April of 2001 and was bought out by Classmates.com.
