Great New Music - ‘On An Island’

David Gilmour12 years after Pink Floyd’s most recent studio album and 22 years after his last solo album, David Gilmour, lead guitarist for Pink Floyd, released a solo album “On An Island” on March 7. After laying low since Floyd’s last album, “The Division Bell“, Gilmour finally got around to writing a full slate of new songs along with his wife Polly Samson (mostly lyrics).

I won’t go into a full critique of the album, but I can say that the album is a very satisfying one, showing that rock stars over 60 still have it in them to write outstanding music. Gilmour’s trademark lyric guitar and rich and layered sound are everywhere to be found, and after the album’s ten tracks are over, one only yearns for more.

This of course leads to the biggest desire of all, a Pink Floyd reunion tour and album with Roger Waters. Pink Floyd’s full reunion performance with Waters at the Live 8 concert in London showed that the band still has it, even with less than a month’s preparation for that concert. It’s not likely to happen, but one can always dream…

Some good pages for video media on this new album can be found here:
